Mitchell County Regional Health Center: A Tradition of Excellence in Rural Healthcare

Mitchell County Regional Health Center (MCRHC) continues to lead the way in rural healthcare, earning multiple national honors that highlight its dedication to quality, patient care, and innovation.

MCRHC ranks among the nation’s highest-performing rural hospitals as a 2024 Top 100 Critical Access Hospital, recognized by the Chartis Center for Rural Health. This prestigious designation, based on iVantage Health Analytics’ Hospital Strength INDEX®, evaluates hospitals in quality, outcomes, patient perspective, financial efficiency, and market share. With no application process, this honor is purely performance-based, proving MCRHC’s unwavering commitment to excellence. This marks the fourth time MCRHC has earned this recognition, previously receiving it in 2018, 2019, and 2023.

MCRHC also stands out with 2024 Performance Leadership Awards in Quality and Patient Perspective, again placing in the top quartile (75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals. This continued recognition follows MCRHC’s success in earning these same awards in 2023, reinforcing its leadership in patient-centered care.

In addition to excellence in clinical care, MCRHC’s Emergency Department earned national recognition with the 2023 Human Experience (HX) Guardian of Excellence Award® from Press Ganey. Based on real patient feedback, this award honors healthcare providers ranking in the top 5 percent nationwide for outstanding patient experience and satisfaction over a full year.

Beyond healthcare services, MCRHC excels in communication and outreach, earning a Platinum Hermes Creative Award in 2024 for exceptional advertising and marketing. This recognition underscores MCRHC’s commitment to engaging the community, increasing healthcare awareness, and connecting with patients in meaningful ways.

“Our team delivers high-quality, patient-centered care every day,” says Shelly Russell, CEO of MCRHC. “These national recognitions reflect the dedication, expertise, and compassion our staff brings to every interaction.”

MCRHC’s Senior Life Solutions program is also shaping the future of behavioral healthcare, earning the title of 2024 Training Site of the Year from Psychiatric Medical Care (PMC). The program provides hands-on training for professionals nationwide, drawing participants from across the country, from the Midwest to as far as Maine.

With these national honors, MCRHC continues to raise the bar in rural healthcare, delivering award-winning services, pioneering patient-centered innovation, and strengthening the communities it serves.
